I’m no stranger to Walmart shopping, I particularity love going there for my frozen breakfast food needs(don’t judge they have 2 dollar bowls ya’ll), snacks or toiletry items. In all of the years that I’ve frequented the super store I never paid attention to the many organic food items that they have. I guess I always assumed because they are this huge retailer known for keeping costs low, they wouldn’t have options for healthy eating. Well you know what happens when you assume right…
So it all started when I teamed up with Horizon Organic to try their Grassfed whole milk. I thought it would be the perfect partnership because as I’ve started cooking more at home lately I realize that I have more uses for milk in my recipes. Plus LaJon is literally the cookie monster and when I recently baked cookies all he could say was how much better they’d have tasted with a nice cold glass of milk of which we were out of (insert eye roll) . After teaming up with Horizon Organic and learning how they raise their cows humanely and don’t use hormones or GMOs, and that the cows are actually pasture raised on family farms I knew that they would be the perfect item to add to my grocery list the next time I was in Walmart.
When I got to Walmart as I was walking up and down the aisles I realized that I’d been so used to shopping for the things I was used to buying I had totally missed out on all of the other healthy organic options the store had. Plus it was kinda cool that all organic items were clearly marked “Organic”, so it was easy to find those items that you’d be more apt to buy organically (milk, eggs, veggies, meat) were all things that could be found at Walmart.
I also found items that I didn’t even know were made organically. Things like sugar, bread, some of my canned favorites and even breakfast bars were all items I could buy for my family at a great value! Each time I saw the purple tag pop up in my favorite aisle I felt like I was on a real scavenger hunt 🙂
After my treasure hunt was finished I was so excited to take all my stuff home and show LJ the cool things I’d found because I knew he was going to think I’d been at some overpriced market and had went overboard like I usually do but he was so surprised to learn that the things I’d bought were around the same exact prices that we always spend. It made us realize it’s really not hard to go Organic on the things we enjoy and we can do it feeling guilt and debt free.
So guys, what are some organic value items that you enjoy buying that don’t break the bank? Are there some recipes I can use my Horizon Organic Grassfed Milk in that you swear by? I’d love to know in the comments below.
