As I’ve gotten older, and I look around and see my girlfriends with children of their own and hear stories about what life as a mom feels like, I realize that I rarely have a chance to speak to the guys in my life about what fatherhood means to them. So this Father’s Day I am pairing up with Michelob Ultraand we wanted to give the fellas center stage!
To do this, I talked to 6 fab dads about what fatherhood means to them. Their answers were incredibly sweet and made me so proud to know them. Read on to get some of their insight and some gifting inspiration for the Ultra Dad in your life!
I’ve really enjoyed seeing my brother Anthony grow as Father. From being a young Dad and welcoming his daughter at 20 and then 16 years later doing it all over again and having two sons, I’ve seen him mature in so many ways! Here is what Anthony had to say about what Fatherhood means to him. ” Fatherhood is one of the greatest gifts God can bless us men with and also a great responsibility as well. When I look into my children’s eyes and see myself, it gives me the purest joy. They all look at me with such admiration, so it lets me know how much they look up to me. They listen and copy almost everything I do. There’s the responsibility part of fatherhood, whatever I instill in their pure little hearts they will eventually follow. But I love it!!
I am besties with Todd’s wife Julie, so I get to see firsthand what a fab dad he is. Todd is SO hands on with their cute daughter Kenzie and when I visit he’s always quick to take on all baby duties so that Julie and I can get in some girl time. Here’s what Todd had to say about what fatherhood means to him. “Fatherhood to me is reliving childhood through a new set of eyes and being in awe of how fast my daughter learns and grows. It’s learning what patience really means! It’s also the feeling of a whole new love I never could have imagined, but different from the love I have for my beautiful wife.”
My oldest brother Grady has always been somewhat of a ladies man. He’s charming, incredibly sweet and funny, so it would only be fair that he be blessed with not one but TWO gorgeous daughters! When I asked him what fatherhood meant to him he simply said ” Father’s be good to your daughters, daughters will love like you do.” Thank you Grady (and John Mayer) for that insightful quote.
One of the things that stood out to me about my boyfriend LaJon was his commitment to his son. When we began dating he made it very clear to me that his son comes first in his life and by dating him I would have to understand that. This just made me like him even more! When I asked LaJon what fatherhood meant to him he said “Being a father to me means being a provider. Not just a provider of financial responsibility for your child but being a provider of your time, your patience, your happiness, positivity and encouragement. It means providing your child with a good example to set for them as a male, a father and human being.”
When I asked my brother Cheyenne what fatherhood means to him, he hesitated because he wasn’t sure he could be classified as a father just yet because his daughter hasn’t been born. To which I replied, you’re a father as soon as you start to care for your child, and I know he takes great care of his girlfriend and makes sure she’s happy so in essence he is already a great Dad. This is what he had to say about what fatherhood means to him “Knowing that God handpicked me to watch over, guide and mold a little life has to be the greatest honor in the world and I’m so grateful that he saw fit to place the title of Dad on me. I get to be the first man to show my daughter what love is! When I think of that, I lose every ounce of cool and just grin from ear to ear knowing that whatever happens, whoever she decides to be, whatever the road takes her in life her foundation will always be love.
Brian is another fab Dad that I had to include in this roundup. He’s the kind of Dad that will throw on the roller skates and have just as much fun on the floor as the kids, he’s a perfect mix of cool and loving Dad but stern and protective Father. Here’s what Brian had to say about what fatherhood means to him “Being a father is the most incredible joy I’ve ever felt. And to have a chance everyday to nurture and love the life that I’ve been blessed to have is like every favorite thing I’ve ever imagined, in a gift. My love for my daughter has no limitations and being her father is my key to that wonderful happiness .. It’s not the life I grew up knowing but it’s the life that I’m now living and I LOVE IT”
