You were warned NEVER to call her Grandma or Granny, “Lovey, Ma’ Dear, Mama or Nana” were the only things she’d ever answer to. She’s always on the go and prides herself on the fact that “I’m not getting old sugar I’m just getting better”, and like a fine wine (that one she insists on having every night with dinner) she’s aged lovely. Always the go between when you’ve had a fight with your parents and filled with the kind of knowledge that only comes from life experience, your Nan is everything you wish to be when you truly grow up. She doesn’t want to be fussed over and hates the attention on her (but she kind of likes it too), she is the kind of woman who will appreciate today’s style mixed with her own style sensibilities because let’s face it everyone in the family learned by watching her do it first!
Happy Mother’s Day to all of my stylish Nana’s out there! My Grandmother was one of them, she didn’t take shit from anyone, was a trailblazer at a time when there weren’t many trails for black women to travel down, and did it with the most loving, caring and giving heart! These gifts match my Nan’s sense of style and I hope they do the same for yours.
