The DIY Thankful Tree

in Entertaining on 23/11/15

Thankful Tree

I’m not the girl you want to entrust with meal prep  on Thanksgiving.  Setting the table and the scene has always been more my forte. So in thinking of  a creative and cost-effective way to create an arrangement for the holiday I went to Pinterest for some inspiration.

Lia Griffith gave me JUST what I needed in the form of a do it yourself thankful tree. The execution was simple enough and my family absolutely loved it. Learn how to create your own thankful tree using these simple steps after the jump.

Materials

Card Stock

Leaf Printable

Ribbon/Twine

Scissors

Faux Tree Branches

Single Hole Punch

Gold Spray Paint

Thick  Butcher Paper to Spray Paint Branches

Stones

Vase

Directions

The steps are simple enough…

  1. Spray paint faux branches and let dry atop butcher paper overnight
  2. Place stones at the base of your container to add weight
  3. Once dry arrange branches in vase pushing stems in stone layer
  4. Print leaf printable on assorted colors of card stock,
  5. Cut and hole punch the base of each leaf with small hole punch
  6. String twine or ribbon through the hole
  7. Place the leaves in a bowl with metallic and black pens for guests to add their notes of gratitude

The tree is both a beautiful edition to your decor and a great conversation starter. More than anything it’s a reminder of all of the great things we have to be thankful for.

This is such a fantastic idea! I’m definitely going to do something similar with my family. What I love is how simple this idea is, and how each family can tweak it to make it theirs. Thank you for the inspiration!

These are really nice! It is one way to be reminded how we should be thankful not just during this season, but throughout the year. I would love to try this DIY project with my wife. 🙂

I love this project! What a great way for the kids to write down what they are thankful for. We used to do something like this when i was in school. We would bring it home and would read them during dinner.

I love this idea! My favorite part are the colors you’ve chosen. It’d easily fit into the color scheme the rest of the year. I’m going to make one and include me kiddos in the activity.

This would be so much fun to do with our family and friends who visit during the holiday season. I love how it looks, it really looks lovely as home decor. I also think it would make a perfect conversation starter when people come visit and see it.

This is such a fantastic idea! This would be perfect for around the work place, or at school. My husband and I always write letters to one another about what we are thankful for the most. It’s our Christmas tradition for one another 🙂

This is a beautiful decor item. This is something I would do for Christmas or make it a year round piece. May I also add that the vase that you used it’s very beautiful and I would like to know where you got it. Thank you for sharing this idea and I will definitely be sing this idea for the Christmas holiday
