If the picture above doesn’t clue you in to how much fun was had at this months wine club meeting than the title should do the trick-“Journey to the Motherland:An African Jungle Boogie for the Gods”, was the theme and it centered around wines from the region of Africa. We all came dressed in African ensembles , ate African fare, danced to African influenced music and tasted some of the best wines Africa had to offer! It was truly an amazing time (as indicated by all my exclamation’s!!!!)!
The night started out in the back yard of 2 of my Winologues beautiful newly landscaped backyard. We enjoyed some pre party glasses of rose and caught up on the goings on in each other’s lives. I swear, every time we get together we never run out of things to talk about and we laugh all night long!
We were then handed really cute note cards and began the taste! On the cards we detailed each wine that we sampled and the notes of each wine as well as the region in Africa it came from. We then judged each wine from 1-10. As we sampled the wine we noshed on piri pir chicken, jollof rice, watermelon feta salad. The turkey meat patties came from Veronica’s Kitchen in Inglewood California and they were delish!
I think my favorite part of wine club this month were the amazing outfits we all wore to showcase our African pride! We really got into it and everyone looked fab!
Can’t forget the awesome wines we tasted! I learned that Chenin Blancs are really popular in Africa so if you love a crisp Chenin Blanc you may want to try an African variety. They have fruit tones but are suttle and not too sweet. We also had a wine from Mandela’s vineyard. I never knew he owned a vineyard so that was and extra special surprise. Here are a couple of my favorites from the night
As you can see as the night goes on my pictures start getting a little blurry (wine wasted much?) but the blurry pictures only go to show how much fun we had. Our host planned a full on video montage of how Africa has influenced american culture in ways we sometimes don’t recognize. She played scenes from some of our favorite movies and threw in a few of our favorite artists to show how we all grab from the culture in so many ways. This really started the party and everyone was up dancing!
I want to thank our host Sherrelle for a wonderful time! You truly went above and beyond and I had SO much fun!
I hope you guys enjoyed another look into this months Vagina Winologue wine club meeting. Are there any idea’s you think can be incorporated into your own African inspired party? Let me know what you think. Until next time remember to always keep the party goin 😉
