My recent travels (to read all about where I’ve been click here) have inspired me to live more boldly and fearless. When you’re visiting different parts of the world and immersing yourself in new cultures I have found that it’s super important to keep an open mind and not be so rigid. Travel for me is not about “getting lost” but rather getting found, when I come back I want life as I’ve known it to change in whatever way it needs to so that the trip continues to make an impact on my life long after I’ve come home.
I was incredibly moved by the artists in Cuba and decided that I wanted to bring that sense of creativity into all aspects of my life. In thinking how I could go about that my mind kept thinking about the word COLOR. Spiritually, emotionally and conceptually I want my life to truly be colorful, and what better way to begin living more colorfully than to bring more color into my physical world.
I decided the place I would tackle first would be this drab wall in my living room. I have a statement wall in my dining room already so I needed a color that would flow perfectly with it without being too busy. While I think I have a good eye, I’m far from a professional decorater so I called on my friends over at Dunn-Edwards to show me the way.
First off can I say how incredibly organized and comfortable the store felt. I usually hate going to any kind of hardware store and always feel overwhelmed when I enter one, but Dunn Edwards just had a very inviting vibe. I went directly to the color wall pictured above and was completely mesmerized by all of the beautiful colors.
I knew that I wanted the new color to be bold but I also knew that I needed some help in picking the right one. Thank GOD for my Dunn-Edwards color consultant Diane. She was so helpful and knowledgeable about everything color. I simply showed her my living room, told her the dimensions, and it was like a light went off in her head because she gave me the greatest idea! She had seen the yellow lamp in my living room and my purple couch and thought that should be the inspiration for my statement wall.
First she asked how bold I wanted to go. In thinking about my travels I thought what better time than to use that fearlessness that I’ve been trying to incorporate into my life, so I told her to surprise me. She came up with the color combo you see above and below and I immediately said YES.
Since I’m new to painting I didn’t want to mess the job up, so when Diane told me about their contractor referral center I was quickly at ease. Pretty much if you’re a painter you can advertise your services on a bulletin board at Dunn Edwards and customers can contact you directly should they need your services.
Diane however encouraged me to do the job myself and again living boldly and fearlessly came to mind so I enlisted one of my best friends to help me in my painting adventures.
I really wish I could take complete credit for how well this project turned out but I have to be honest, my bestie did this all by herself while I was working. She did SUCH an amazing job right?!? But it wouldn’t have been possible without the help of Diane my color consultant.
So what is currently inspiring you guys? I’d love to know in the comments below!
