Long time no talk party people!! So much is going on in our crazy, wonderful world and I’ve been torn about whether I should discuss world matters on my blog or not. On the one hand I don’t want to alienate anyone who may have a differing view, but on the other hand I’ve got to be true to who I am in all aspects of my life. If there is one thing I’ve learned in my 3? years of life, it’s that you’ve got to be you, and those who matter won’t mind and those who mind don’t necessarily matter. I say necessarily because at the end of the day you all matter to me, and it’s a very tight rope I walk to allow you all to matter enough that I am compassionate but not so much that I’m not courageous.
So here goes…I do not believe that we made the right decision in this election, however I accept it and I pray for the best. Meanwhile I pledge to do my part to be the change I hope to see. I truly believe that we learned so much from this election about who we are as Americans and not all of it was bad. The lesson I choose to focus on is that we’ve got some very brave, very smart women who are poised to be in power. I mean people are already pushing for Michelle Obama to run in 2020 .
All throughout my life I feel I’ve been called to be a support, and a champion of women. From my strong female friendships to the way my heart would ache when I heard any girl being treated poorly throughout my life. I distinctly remember feeling a huge amount of sorrow for girls in school who were labeled sluts and shamed for their presumed slutty behavior. I never spoke up because I didn’t want to be labeled that too and I think my cowardice at that time still stays with me. It wasn’t until my first Women’s Studies course in college that I really was able to define my feelings. I was a feminist. Someone who inherently believes that men and women were created equal and should be treated as such.
Now more than ever I feel called to encourage, inspire and support women in any way I can. I believe that tugging on my heart was placed there long ago so that I could do the work I am meant to do. I believe that God, the universe, Allah, Spirit (or whomever you identify as ruler of this earth) is putting things in place for me as we speak to start that work. Donald Trump who has spoken so abhorrently about women was just the nudge I needed to wrap my arms around this belief, nurture it and fight for it.
So here I am, laying it out there to you because I want you my readers to know where I stand. It’s important for me to do this because as scared as I am about claiming this and fighting for this I know in my heart of hearts it is what I am meant to do.
I am also meant to inspire you to live your life-like it’s the weekend 7 days a week, and in that vein you will still see tips on parties, get the inside scoop on parties that I attend and hear about products that I love and are making my life that much more fabulous! This IS still Weekend’s With Winter after all 😉
